New! The ban on hunting with dogs is under attack

FAACE fought for years to bring in the law against hunting with dogs. We led the demonstration against the infamous yearly hare coursing event, “The Waterloo Cup”.

Now the ban on hunting with dogs is under attack. The Conservative party has given assurances to the hunt supporters that, if elected, they will repeal the law against hunting with dogs.

FAACE tries to be apolitical, but cannot stand by and do nothing about this terrible betrayal of the animals by the Tories. If you want to support the ban against hunting with dogs you can go to www.backtheban.com where Hilary Benn is fighting for the animals.

No! to bullfighting exhibition in the European Parliament

A bullfighting exhibition is scheduled to take place in the European Parliament in Brussels on the 4th and 5th June 2008. Should it take place, a pan-European demo may be staged.

The organizer of the event is MEP Luis dse Grandes, MEP for Spain's Partido Popular. Each Euro deputee is entitled to hold a presentation once a year. Together with Spain's most important bull breeder, Eduardo Miura, he intends to sell the blood soaked bullfight to his fellow MEPs by means of a multi media show and personal appearances of famous matadors like Enrique Ponce and El Julí.

The organizers are aware that the exhibition will take place in a hostile atmosphere, because in recent years the Euro Deputees repeatedly tried to get rid of the corrida. In January 2007 an impressive over 25% of the MEPs tried to get bullfighting banned with a written declaration within the EU (211 of 785 MEPs).

Please write in protest to your MEP.

Campaign against Margate mock bullfight

Margate promotes bullfighting.

Put together six bulls (the number that are killed in a bullfight), a matador (the bull killer), a ring that they enter. The Pamplona Bull Run, (where bulls are run into the bullring to be killed that night) and Hemingway (who did his best to promote bullfighting, and what have you got? A promotion of bullfighting whether Thanet District Council thinks so or not!

From their own site:

"A Spanish feel returns to Margate this Summer with the second Fiesta weekend on Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August. On the Saturday, street performers in the guise of six bulls, a matador, and a flamenco dancer will entertain with a parade along the promenade of Margate and enter a ring for a pyrotechnic finale.

This contribution by IOTA has been inspired by the famous Pamplona Bull Run, Ernest Hemingway's 'The sun also rises' and a bit of Picasso thrown in for good measure!"

Campaign against bullfighting transmissions by SKY television

Sky Television is selling the viewing of bullfighting live, as part of it's Sky World Family Pack. By this the company is not only breaking its own code of ethics but EU law (see also our press release). Community law is being violated by the transmission of live bullfights in the UK at a time when children are able to watch. In the UK bullfight transmissions can be received in some cases from 16.00 hrs on and for up to three hours.

Sky TV, in their Sky Sale, has come up with this cartoon.

This is a cynical reference to the bullfighting and is an advertisement in very bad taste.

If you, as a customer or a potential customer, would like to let Sky television know what you think of the live transmission of bullfights and the promotion of bullfighting, you may write to:

skydigital@sky.com ,viewerr@bskyb.com and a copy to action@faace.co.uk
