castrated and tail cut off

In Tordesillas (Valladolid, Province of Castilla y León, Spain), every september, a bull is tortured and killed in a spectacle called the “Toro de la Vega”.

This year it takes place on the 14th of September.

A babarous mob armed with long medieval lances with a 33 cm blade, chase a bull across a field and thrust these terrible lances into every part of the animal’s body, who then dies a cruel and terrible death. They cut the testicles and the tail off -sometimes while the bull is still alive- they stick the tail on one lance and the testicles on another.

The one who delivers the death blow gets the tail as a trophy, he sticks it on his lance and shows it off, walking from the place here the bull is killed to the door of the townhall, where the authorities wait for him to officially award him the tail. This is an act of brutality and barbarism of primitive and cruel tribes, and this is what the authorities, the participants and the spectacle prove it to be!
The spectacle is organized by the townhall of Tordesillas and the government of the Castilla-León supports it by declaring it’s legality.

Asunto: Tordesillas, ciudad non grata

Sres.,

Against Animal Cruelty In Europe” (FAACE).

Re: Tordesillas, town non grata

Dear Sirs,

I protest very strongly against the spectacle of the “Toro de la Vega”, because it is cruel and bloody. The mob, armed with terrible medieval lances, chases an animal across a field, rounding it up and sticking their lances in every part of its body until it dies.

The whole world questions the morality of the government of Castilla-León and the townhall of Tordesillas for supporting this.

I demand the banning of this savage torturing and support the proposition to declare Tordesillas a “Town non grata”, while it insists on defending this savage barbarism.

The proposition to internationally declare Tordesillas as a “Town non grata” was made by Asociación Nacional para la Protección y el Bienestar de los Animales (ANPBA), from Spain, the German organizations “Initiative Anti-Corrida” (IAC) y “Animal 2000”, and the British organisation “Fight Against Animal Cruelty In Europe” (FAACE).
